WHARFINGER HOUSE

Wiltshire, UK

This handsome Georgian grade II listed house along the Kennet & Avon canal used to be the old wharf master’s dwelling who controlled the lock and small marina. Still an elegantly proportioned home, the building is tired and we seek to add some contemporary flair whilst overhauling the interiors. The formal layout is to be retained internally whilst a sleek new linear brick extension is added to the rear that opens up generously to the garden and connects to the existing kitchen. Within the extension, a zinc lantern is added over the living spaces designed with a form that plays on the asymmetrical roof volume of the existing house.
